If you’re looking to start or grow a business and make money online, it’s likely you may have come across SEMRush. It’s a powerhouse tool designed to show you everything you’d need to know to grow your online presence using search engine marketing. Despite its robust features, some people won’t want to go with SEMRush for one reason or another, which is why I’ve compiled this list of SEMRush alternatives for you.
It’s important to curate good content. Finding good content ideas is key, but it can be difficult and time-consuming to do the research to discover what content will resonate with your target audience–that’s where tools like SEMRush and these alternatives come in handy.
Despite the fact that SEMRush is a powerhouse of a tool, it’s very high priced for most (ranging from a whopping $99-$499/month when paid in monthly increments and $79-$499+ when paid in yearly increments). The price can be limiting and the features may also leave more to be desired, so I wanted to introduce you to 5 SEMRush alternatives and my #1 recommendation.
I understand how it is to scour for ideas, to invest time learning what your potential customers may need, and to try to do your best to get your content found. I understand how tools like Semrush and Semrush alternatives can come in handy because rather than leaving us to our own assumptions, they provide a clear analysis of our competitors, they show us trending content, and they help us brainstorm on potential content ideas. I get it.
However, I’m also like you in the sense that I want to use the tool that gives my business the greatest advantage: budget-wise and feature-wise.
I know it can seem overwhelming to find the tools your business needs because there are so many “flashing lights” and “sales letters”. I also know how serious it is to keep expenses reasonable and to keep profit margins nice to make an enjoyable life and happy work relationships.
And, lets be frank about something…we’re busy!
We don’t have time to scroll thru every ad, offer, and weigh pros and cons of all of the SEMRush alternatives. However, If we pick the wrong tool, we can find ourselves spending loads unproductive time and loads of money with little to no return on investment. I know how it is. That’s why I wrote this article to share with you the best tool I’ve found to do competitor analysis, keyword research, PPC analysis, examination of potential affiliate programs, and more. I’ve done quite a bit of research to find the best SEMRush alternatives, so you don’t have to, and I want to introduce you to my #1 recommendation.
Types of Keyword Research
First, let me start by introducing you to two main schools of thought regarding ranking in the search engines: the traditional approach and the skyscraper technique. Both approaches vary a lot and each one has tools to support the individual approach.
The Traditional Approach
With the traditional approach to keyword research, you would find a keyword based on the key quality indicator (KQI) and the quality standard ratios (QSR). Old school internet marketers used to learn how to factor KQI and QSR. They took a time-intensive mathematical approach to decide which keywords to use and take a stab at rankings in the search engine.
To the old schoolers advantage, there was not much competition in the internet marketing world in comparison to today, therefore, spending the time doing the math could still give them ROIs, but today, luckily there are many tools to help us like:
- SE Cockpit
- and Moz
The Onset of the New Content Marketing Method: The Skyscraper Technique
Unfortunately, as with many or things, time causes advancements. The traditional approach to keyword research and gaining rankings in the search engines has been advanced. Now, many people are using the skyscraper technique. In his article called How I Increased my Search Traffic by 110% in 14 days, Brian Dean discusses the new method of gaining a foothold in the search engines using the skyscraper technique. Unfortunately, in order to successfully execute the skyscraper technique, you must: (1) Find popular content, (2) Make it your own, and (3) Share the content with other content creators/curators to get high-quality backlinks.
The problem is finding that popular content has so many factors: social shares, site rank, domain authority, backlinks, meta tags, and so many other things. Talk about a time-intensive process to discover all of these factors….and, wouldn’t it be good to find this information for each article, product, or service you distribute on the internet? I think so.
This is why new tools that can do keyword research and competitor analysis have come to the market. A few of the new and powerful tools on the market are:
You’ll find many internet marketing experts who use SEMRush. In fact, according to their site, they are the chosen tools of 2,251,000 internet professionals! I can’t argue that Semrush has powerful features. It is known for:
- Organic research, you can use Semrush to analyze keywords for your content marketing strategy, and you can analyze the keyword strategy of your competitors.
- Advertising research – You can discover what your competitors ads, their strategies, and budget. It is said to inform you when you have new advertising competition.
- Display advertising research – You can analyze display ads, what your competitor’s ads look like, and their performance.
- You can analyze backlinks, domain authority, and geolocation of backlinks.
- Keyword research – You can conduct keyword research to create content online that gets rankings.
No one can argue that using a tool like Semrush could be useful for a marketing campaign. The suite of features to analyze content, create content curation ideas, and the competitor analysis features are amazing.
Now, for the price…
They charge between $99 for the basic plan to upwards of $399 for enterprise options. If you decide to sign up for the annual subscription, they charge $999-$3999. I’m guessing since you’re here looking for a Semrush free alternative, you may have discovered the price, and you think it’s just too much.
That’s an okay opinion to have, and…the good news…
