Personalized Corporate Gifts: 10 Things Custom Items Say About Your Brand

personalized corporate gifts

So the scenario goes like this…

You’ve been reflecting on metrics that matter in your business: the good and the bad.  You’re looking at things like sales, customer retention, # of referrals, amount of social reach, and other indicators of your business growth.  As you’re looking, you notice some key patterns like:

  • Some people really advocated for your company and helped spur your growth
  • Some people worked really hard to keep your customers happy
  • A few people rocked it in the sales department and your results show
  • and some customers and employees have been with you for awhile

With these metrics in mind, you want to do something to make these ideal patterns continue.  You want a boost to your key performance indicators to happen like clockwork and even to become ingrained in your company culture, but how do you do that?  How does personalized corporate gifts separate themselves as an ideal gift?

There are so many things out there vying to be used as gifts, but not all of them send the message of corporate gifts with a logo.  Here’s 10 things giving personalized corporate gifts says about your brand…

personalized corporate gifts1. You Express Gratitude

According to statistics, 48% of consumers said they would like to receive promotional products more often.  In our families, friendships, and businesses, people feel more and more neglected because of the busyness of life and the distractions.  Topics like work-life balance or gratitude are buzzwords (with more than 700 million results on Google in less than 20 seconds!) because people don’t get attention and don’t feel appreciated.

Feeling unappreciated can have many negative effects including:

  • Low confidence
  • Poor workplace performance
  • Low self-esteem
  • Lack of motivation
  • Poor sleep habits
  • Bad eating habits
  • and so much more…

Simply by choosing to be a company that shows gratitude, you can contribute positively to better health, better performance, and more long-term impact.

2. You Reward People

There are stats to show customer and employee rewards help boost positive behaviors–whether you want higher retention, lower churn, more sales, or less people quitting.  Using personalized corporate gifts can help you to represent your brand as a company who rewards optimal behavior, rather than being a company who takes the efforts of others for granted.

Some valuable stats:

The presence of an employee incentive program motivated 66% of employees to stay at their job  (Source: DCR Strategies)

Companies with low turnover report at least one recognition program (Source: DCR Strategies)

2016 study found that customers who are members of loyalty programs, such as frequent flier clubs, generate between 12 and 18 percent more revenue than non-members.

A 2014 study shows 73 percent of consumers believe loyalty programs should be a way for brands to show loyalty to customers. Interestingly, 66 percent of marketers see the reverse: that loyalty programs offer a way for consumers to show their loyalty to a brand.

3. You’re Concerned About Others

There’s a common belief among consumers that rich people and big businesses are only concerned about themselves.  While, many companies have an opposite ethos that says we’re concerned about others, having regular surprises where customers expectations are exceeded by adding personalized corporate gifts could help burst that myth.

personalized corporate gifts4. You’re Bold

Some companies have esteem issues.  They stay hidden in the corner with excuses like “We’re too small”, “we don’t have enough money”, “we only operate like..”, and on and on…There are affordable corporate gifts out there, and when you start using them to let others know about your brand, it gives off the impression that you’re confident, bold, and willing to represent your brand.

5. You Believe in Your Company Enough You Want Others To Know About it

There are a few signs that let you know a company isn’t confident about their product and service.  Some of those tell tale signs is:

  • They don’t market enough (and they may even be scared to)
  • They aren’t willing to reinvest in building their brand and reputation
  • They aren’t willing to lower the risk of the customer with money back guarantees or samples
  • and, they act shy when asked about their company

These are not good signs….especially not for a company that’s been around awhile

Giving out personalized corporate gifts tells others “We believe in our company” and “We believe in what we offer”.

6. You Don’t Only Persuade With Sales Pitches

There are plenty of salespeople out there who are willing to inundate people with selfish sounding sales pitches like “I can do…”, “I am the best at…”, or “I’m better than…”.  According to the world’s top sales professionals like Grant Cardone, Zig Ziglar, or Jim Rohn, you shouldn’t sell with selfish sales pitches!

Instead, you should identify the customer’s problem and find the solution for that.  As quoted by Dean Graziosi, “People will learn from you, listen to you, love you, buy from you, and hire you when they feel understood, not when they understand you.”

Giving personalized corporate gifts are a way of giving something first to break the ice and build the trust, then allowing the customer to be understood.

personalized corporate gifts7. You’re Tangible and Real

Now, with more business being done virtually, many companies seem like figments of our imagination.  Having personalized corporate gifts in your marketing mix can help people to see that you’re real.

In his book and in a recent interview, Dotcom Secrets, Russel Brunson talked about how he added custom promo items into his marketing strategy to grow Clickfunnels from $0 to a $596 million bootstrapped company in 3 years!

personalized corporate gifts can help to prove your company is tangible and real.

8. You want to Give Memories and Experiences

When you get a surprise, it leaves a memory.  Often times, personalized corporate gifts are coupled into an experience like an event, an ad campaign, a holiday, or simply “just because”.  Whenever personalized corporate gifts are given, it tells the recipient that you don’t simply want to meet the minimum requirement of your product or service, but you want to give them memories and experiences.

Dean Graziosi said,“When you tap into people’s wants, you stir their emotions, and emotions make decisions. As long as you’re emotionally engaging them in a process, or an action that can help their lives, do anything in your power to turn the proposed behavior into reality.”

personalized corporate gifts9. You want to Enhance Others

There are many personalized corporate gifts to choose from.  You can choose trophies or awards, but you can also choose useful items like jackets, scarves, phone covers, or blankets.  77% of recipients said a promotional item’s usefulness is the #1 reason they keep it.  If you choose a useful corporate gift with a logo, you’d be choosing something that enhances the recipient’s life.

10. You’re Thoughtful

Being thoughtful is a competitive advantage.  When customers believe you deliver on product and service expectations, and you’re thoughtful by remembering special occasions, it moves their emotions, and increases your retention.  You want to be a brand that demonstrates that you have your customer’s best interest, you’re their most trusted advisor in your niche, and you think about them beyond cash transactions.

  1. I have seen the corporate gift program implemented a lot lately not only because it rewards hard work, but it motivates employees to drive harder for success regardless of what that may be!
My wife’s work gives out gifts throughout the year to show their great appreciation for the employees! It doesn’t have to be somthing massive or expensive, although hers were!
There are many great benefits to giving out corporate gifts and this explains many of them. Thank you for sharing this with us and I look forward to seeing more!
    Thanks,
    Timm

    1. I agree Timm. Personalized corporate gifts can motivate employees, and I’ve experienced it myself. In the military, we would get coins and trophies and it was very motivating to be recognized. Thanks for sharing your experience!

  2. It’s interesting that you placed gratitude at the top of this list. I think feeling appreciated, especially by your boss, is not only a great reward but a great motivator to keep on doing what you’re doing!

Memories and experiences are definitely another really important aspect of giving gifts. In fact, creating memories is often the BEST gift we can give. Monetary items can fade over time, but a great memory is priceless.

    Thanks for this list!

    1. I agree that being appreciated is a huge motivator in business, but it’s too common to see higher ups who don’t get that. When you watch shows like Undercover Boss, you can see how the bosses showing a little gratitude can really impact lives.

Personalized corporate gifts is a great way to show gratitude. Glad you enjoyed the list.

  3. Hi Tiffany, wow these are some really great points that you’ve made !

I fully agree that giving corporate gifts can make an online company seem more real. With offline businesses I believe it can give a boost in motivation because it is also a form of recognition.

I’m curious though, what kind of gifts would you like to receive? I’m asking because I have not received a single corporate gift in my career haha.

    1. You probably have received personalized corporate gifts, but may not have realized it. Even if your job didn’t give them out, it’s common for companies to give them out to customers at places like car dealerships, when buying houses, or if you’re a new customer.

I’ve received personalized folders from companies who have paperwork for me to fill out prior to becoming a customer. I’ve received license plate frames from car dealerships. I’ve received keychains from my builder when I built my house, and the list goes on.

As an employee in the military, we would get personalized coins, trophies, balloons, certificates, and things like that to show their appreciation for our work.  There’s so many options. If you’re considering using this in your business, schedule a free audit and we’ll help you out!

  4. It is a very amazing article. Your readers will really learn something from it. Each one of us will gain something out of it. Thank you and Godbless!
